Through a commitment to unity and involvement residents ensure that our community remains strong and vibrant, with each resident playing a role in shaping our collective future.
If one looks back at Wyoming history, we find that most people from here actually came here. Emigrants from all over the country and other parts of the world came here with a vision for a better life for themselves and their families. The vision that like-minded people working together can make for a better place and circumstance in which to live and to prosper. Converse County’s namesake, Amasa Rice Converse, a banker and rancher who originally migrated to Cheyenne, from his home state of Massachusetts - - shared this vision. Amasa exemplified the spirit of ambition and determination that defines our community. Understanding and honoring our diverse origins helps us appreciate the conservative values that unite us.
Some may raise questions given my not being from Wyoming, yet it is important to recognize that it is a shared vision that unites and whether you were born here or migrated here, it is shared values and vision that make a community. Referencing an article <make a link> by Dave Simpson in Cowboy State Daily, “We might be just as well off with lawmakers who live here because they made the wise decision to come here, not just because this is where their mothers delivered them.” Many who came to Wyoming did so to escape increasing government interference in their lives. They sought the freedom to live according to their values—common sense, hard work, and traditional family values. These principles are at the heart of Converse County’s identity, and it is crucial to protect them against encroaching external influences.
Believing in hard work, common sense, and traditional family values, Candy and I are here because we chose to be. Our community-oriented people, always willing to help a neighbor in need, embody the values we were searching for when we came here. The strength of Converse County lies in its residents’ commitment to looking out for each other and maintaining the conservative values that have long been our foundation. By fostering this supportive environment, we ensure that Converse County remains a place where everyone can thrive, united by a common vision and mutual respect.
